Five Thoughts of the Day—June 1, 2009

  1. Memo to the Los Angeles Police Garages: It would help in the future if you could clearly identify what zones your garages cover in clear detail on your website! That way, two very tired people searching for a car at 3:30 in the morning would be able to have a little less anxiety about the whole process. (I must say, the cool air sobered me up after Floramae's devilish punch, and Lisa showed an extreme self-possession I can't help but admire…and at 7:00 we got her car back safe and sound.)
  2. The Griddle was designed to kill humans. Even dividing them and sharing and eating less than half the plate, the Golden Ticket pancakes made me not think about my appetite for twenty hours or so.
  3. On the other hand, Jonathan's roast chicken, asparagus, potatoes, and homemade bread made for an exquisite meal of beautifully simple food Sunday night. We also talked about our departures and arrivals and how much we care about where we're going to be ending up…I shall miss that man so much in Chicago, but I am comforted by how well I know he will succeed…even as he heads straight into a Woody Allen scenario in Charlottesville.
  4. Drag Me To Hell is decent and entertaining…and doesn't hold a sacrificial candle to the Evil Dead trilogy.
  5. I like seeing my friends be happy. I like seeing how adorable Chad and Holly are together. I like watching Josie cling to Marley's arm all the way through Drag Me To Hell. I like seeing Dave at his most ebulliently joyous in nearly three years. I like watching Kate weave her way through our labyrinth of furniture and drunken guests to give Adam a big end-of-a-fifties-sitcom kiss when he comes home at 2:30 in the morning. And I like being able to think that as long as I genuinely be myself with everyone I meet, I'll have that kind of happiness someday.
